How to:
find similar songs (that's already in your library) with Music Mapper

Every DJ has the same problem: a library full of tracks they fell in love with once, now buried in folders and promo downloads they never reopen. So you end up leaning on the same twenty songs you can actually remember, and your sets stop evolving. The music's already there — you just can't see the connections.

Music Mapper is built for exactly this. You drag your library in and an AI model running locally on your laptop — nothing uploaded to the cloud — listens to each track and plots it on a visual map, placing similar-sounding tracks next to each other. Each dot is a song; nearby dots share a vibe, energy or feel. You preview by hovering, spot relationships you'd never find by scrolling filenames, and pull tracks into a playlist with one keypress. It's currently Apple Silicon Mac only, with Windows and Linux in the works.

The payoff is set prep that feels like discovery instead of admin. Instead of auditioning tracks one by one until your ears give out, you explore by feel — find the track that sits next to your opener, or make a deliberate jump into something contrasting without losing the thread. When you're done, export the playlist straight into Rekordbox, Serato, Traktor or Pioneer DJ and prep the rest of your set there.

THE CHECK LIST

  • Download Music Mapper and drag your full library in to be analysed

  • Let it map your collection so similar tracks sit next to each other

  • Hover across the map to preview tracks by vibe rather than by filename

  • Start from a track you know works, then explore the dots around it

  • Pull the ones that fit into a playlist as you go

  • Use the map to find deliberate contrasts, not just safe similar picks

  • Export the finished playlist into Rekordbox or your DJ software to prep the set
