How to:
remix and bootleg tracks way faster with Premix

Every remix or bootleg starts with the same grind. Track down the song, get it into your DAW, work out the key and the BPM, time-stretch it to your project, and if you want to work with the parts separately, run it through a stem splitter too. That’s twenty to thirty minutes of pure admin before you’ve made a single creative decision, and it’s where a lot of remix ideas quietly die — you run out of momentum before you’ve even started.

Premix is built to kill that prep. It’s a plugin from Low End Candy, the independent company founded by producer Beau McLeod (Bohemyth) behind tools like Preverb and Slingshot. You search for a song or import your own file, and Premix works out the key and BPM, splits the stems, and drops the track into your project on the grid, ready to go. It runs in Ableton Live, Logic, FL Studio, Bitwig, REAPER, Cubase and GarageBand, so whatever you produce in, it fits your setup.

What that saves you adds up fast. In Ableton Live it sets your project tempo and key to match automatically, so you skip the manual time-stretching entirely. In FL Studio the song and the stems drag straight onto your playlist, already lined up on the grid, so there’s no faffing with downloads and alignment (deeper FL integration, with the tempo and key setting themselves like they do in Live, is on the way but not there yet). The stem splitting is the real win for remixers and bootleggers — isolating the vocal, drums or bass without reaching for a separate tool. And when you want the proper file, you can buy the full track through a vendor to get the WAV or 320 straight away.

Premix is USD$39, and the Faded code FADED25 takes 25% off at checkout, bringing it to USD$29.25 — it’s not limited to one use, so share it around.

Connor (Positive Con) from the Faded team — who runs ops and content for Back2Back DJ Battle — reviews: “It finds the song you want, rips it for you, and splits the stems. That’s a lot of jobs for one plugin. Dragging the audio straight into my DAW saves a good ten minutes of faffing around and downloading, and the stem splitting is a proper bonus since I do a lot of remixes and bootlegs. I’m saving about 30 minutes almost every session. The price isn’t inflated either, and it’s something you’ll get use out of for a long time. Would definitely recommend.”

His full verdict: it does the boring jobs so you can get on with the actual remix.
